MICHAEL BROWN

Nominated by President Joe Biden

Michael Brown, President Biden’s nominee for the position of Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, is an experienced defense professional, currently serving as the Director of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) at the U.S. Department of Defense. The Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment is an essential role. Among other critical tasks, the Under Secretary is charged with mitigating environmental threats and ensuring the energy resilience of all U.S. military installations.

As an expert on U.S. defense systems, Brown undoubtedly understands that climate change is a major threat to global security, with drought and extreme weather events jeopardizing our military installations and threatening to destabilize foreign relations as they exacerbate political tensions and resource competition internationally.

It is imperative that someone with such extensive understanding of our military infrastructure helps lead a department that will need to contend so heavily with  the climate crisis.
